Posture is something we rarely think about until it starts to cause us pain.
In today’s world, our lives are built around sitting, scrolling, driving, and leaning forward. Tech neck, tight hips, rounded shoulders - these are becoming the new normal.
As a physiotherapist (and as a mum), I see how these habits affect us all. I often look at my teenage sons, constantly on their phones, and worry about the toll this will take on their necks and backs.
Because I know, from both personal and professional experience, that posture doesn’t just change how we look, it changes how our bodies function.
Throughout my 26 years as a physiotherapist, I’ve seen the same pattern over and over again: weakness in the deep core muscles (the ones that hold our spine and pelvis in alignment) is the hidden cause of so many injuries.
Knee pain, hip pain, back pain, even shoulder pain - they all trace back to a core that’s lost connection with the rest of the body.
Our core is our powerhouse. When it’s strong and aligned, we move freely and efficiently. When it’s not, other muscles take over, tension builds, and something eventually gives way.
